Chapter Twenty Four
I felt like I couldn't walk the next morning. He’d taken me until my legs trembled, and the only thing I could say was more, and yes please. I felt painfully full, and fully sated. His only response when I’d tried to crawl away from him had been that he wasn’t done with me yet. He was insatiable, and every time I'd tried to crawl away, he would just pull me right back to him, and make me want him more. When he finally allowed me to sleep, I’d slept like the dead, wrapped in his arms and safe, which seemed to hold the nightmares at bay.
I was currently watching him sleep. Once again, he looked much younger, and peaceful. He'd watched me for at least three years, and he'd designed our fate. He’d arranged it all and ensured we’d meet, and, in the end, we had.
I wasn’t sure whether I should be upset or impressed that he'd actually gone through everything he had just to be with me. Most people would run. Hell, I should be running and putting as much distance as I could between us, but I couldn't.
I wanted him to look at me with that intense heat burning deep in his golden eyes. I wanted to feel his touch on my soul. And he had touched my soul. He hadn't even been trying, and, yet, I caved in to him every time he touched me. I wanted more than he could offer, or was willing to.
This wouldn’t end with a happily ever after. It would end with me becoming his sex pet, and that wasn’t something I would ever accept as my future. I wanted more than that, more than just to be his bed mate. Besides, I wasn’t sure in which direction my life was going. Everything was out of control. I mean, someone had just blown up my house.
I may have changed into something else, but my principles were the same as they had always been. Right now, I was sleeping with the enemy, and, no matter how much I tried to tell myself I needed it, my heart was going to end up broken. Today, I would start looking for another source of nourishment, and cut ties with Ryder before I fell any deeper into whatever this was that I felt for him. I was teetering on something dangerous with him, and every moment I spent in his company—I was getting more attached—and that was dangerous grounds. I wasn’t sure I wanted to delve deeper into my feelings for him. It wasn’t safe.
He smiled, and opened his eyes to look directly at me. “Sore?” he purred with his eyes low and fused with heat already—a self-assured grin lifted his mouth into a sexy smile. They were beautiful when heavy from sleep. Unguarded was the best way to describe them.
“Very,” I whispered, and sat up, trying to dispel the heat that rose inside of me from looking into his endless golden depths.
“Good,” he replied with a low growl, and watched me as if he was stalking his prey.
